Dr. John Cambridge graduated with a PhD in Entomology from Rutgers University on 2016.  He began working with the Philadelphia Insectarium in early 2016 as a consultant who was tasked with the overly broad mission of “improving the museum”. In August of 2016, Dr. Cambridge created Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion, Inc. which took over the existing business.  By February of 2017, he has completed construction of the Philadelphia Butterfly Pavilion which has since forth served as the defining attraction of the museum.  Under his direction over the next several years, the museum became well known for it’s ability to almost perpetually open new exhibits and conduct a myriad of new educational programs.  In 2020, Dr. Cambridge was forced to close the museum in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  After more than a year with it’s doors closed to the public, Dr. Cambridge reopened the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion in June of 2021 and continues to run it to this day.
